The biggest advantage of switching to the gear reduction starter is that the pinion gear does not turn until it is engaged with the ring gear. the Lucas starter is turning before engaging the ring gear thus chewing the ring gear teeth.we have tried a few of the common suppliers out there that sell a gear reduction starters. We have found the best of the breed of Nippodenso starters. This starter will also fit the 1962 - 1967 MGB.
