FOR THE 1275CC ENGINE, THE PISTON TO USE FOR ANY MODIFIED ENGINE FOR STREET OR MILD RACING IS THE AE 21253 PISTON. IT HAS A COMPRESSION RATIO OF 9.6:1. THIS PISTON HAS A SHALLOW DISH, RATHER THAN THE SWIMMING POOL OF THE ORIGINAL ONE. THE DISH IS 6.5CC AND HAS A SOLID SKIRT.

FOR THE 1275CC MOTOR YOU CAN OVER BORE IT TO GIVE YOU 1380CC AND THE PISTON TO USE IS THE AE 20659 STD. THIS IS FOR WHAT IS COMMONLY CALLED “THE BIG MOTOR”. THE 1275 MOTOR CAN BE SAFELY OVER BORED TO THIS SIZE.

WE CAN GET OR HAVE IN STOCK VENOLIA PISTONS MADE FOR RACING PURPOSES. THESE BEING FORGED, SOLID SKIRT AND FLAT TOPS ECT. IT IS BEST TO GIVE US A CALL TO FIND OUT WHAT WE MIGHT HAVE OR WHAT IS ON ORDER AT THE TIME. THE MOST COMMON SIZE IS .040 OVER WHICH IS THE MAXIMUM FOR SCCA RACING.

SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED TO ONE OF THE BORES. IT CAN BE REPAIRED BY USING A  CYLINDER SLEEVE.

NOTE: THE REAR OF THE 948,1098,1275 ENGINE DOES NOT HAVE A SEAL AS SUCH. THE OIL IS KEPT IN BY USE OF REVERSE SPIRAL GROVES. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO FIT THE REAR MAIN CAP SEAL PLATE WHEN REBUILDING. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME REAR SEAL KITS AVAILABLE, BUT THEY SEEM NOT TO WORK AS THEY SHOULD. WHEN DISASSEMBLING A STOCK BLOCK, I SUGGEST YOU LEAVE THE SEAL PLATE, [HALF MOON], ON THE BLOCK IT IS MOUNTED WITH THREE BOLTS. THAT WAY IT IS ALREADY FITTED.
